New assessment tool to enhance learning outcomes for New Zealand primary schools

Press Release

October 16, 2024

DUNEDIN, AUCKLAND, 16 OCTOBER 2024: Education Perfect (EP), ANZ’s largest education technology provider, has announced the launch of its new subscription type, โ€˜EP Starterโ€™, designed to meet the unique needs of teachers in New Zealand primary schools. This builds on EPโ€™s presence in New Zealand’s schools, with over 75% of Kiwi high schools already using the platform.

The launch comes at a pivotal moment as New Zealand undergoes significant education reforms, with New Zealandโ€™s literacy rates declining and many students struggling with basic maths and writing skills. Furthermore, primary and intermediate schools will soon have a new maths curriculum based on โ€œstructured mathsโ€ starting from 2025 โ€“ a year earlier than initially planned.

In light of these sweeping changes, EPโ€™s new offering will provide crucial support for teachers and students in preparing for the new system. The assessment-first feature-set includes all-in-one curriculum-aligned learning resources and reporting tools, helping teachers with limited time to amplify their impact and focus on helping students reach their full potential.ย

Teachers can access a wide range of topics structured with a curated sequence of lessons, supported by a dedicated โ€˜topic assessmentโ€™, all designed to meet specific curriculum outcomes. The assessments are designed to be multi-use which means they can be used flexibly during the learning process โ€“ as a diagnostic tool to gauge studentsโ€™ prior knowledge, an end-of-topic test to measure achievement, or a quick snapshot to check progress and inform immediate actions. This assessment-first tool is available for years 4-6 in mathematics and in languages.ย

The system promotes personalised learning recommendations based on assessment insights, identifying specific skill gaps for each student and allowing teachers to tailor their teaching to address them effectively. It also includes comprehensive learning materials which, coupled with the assessment insights, can then be used more meaningfully and enhance learning.ย

Jonathan Morgan, CEO of Education Perfect, says: โ€œAt Education Perfect, we believe that meaningful assessment provides the insights to enhance the entire teaching and learning cycle. The launch of our assessment tool for New Zealand primary schools comes at a critical time for both students and teachers preparing for new curriculum changes, and doubles down on our commitment to supporting them. By utilising data-driven insights and pedagogically aligned content, we will empower teachers to make informed decisions that support each studentโ€™s learning needs.โ€

Key features of the new subscription include:

  • Curriculum-aligned resources provide comprehensive learning resources tailored to New Zealandโ€™s educational standards.
  • Flexible assessment options allow teachers to use the tool at different levels for a more adaptable teaching approach.
  • Generates specific learning recommendations based on insights to help identify and address individual student needs effectively.ย
  • The growth tracking tool offers robust reporting features to monitor student progress over time.
  • Designed with simplicity in mind, minimising the time teachers spend to invest in and understand new digital solutions.ย
  • Accessible without the need for 1:1 devices, ensuring that all students can benefit from the platform.
  • Suitable for a wide range of learners – years 4-6 in mathematics and languages.
