New Media Release for Modern Readers

The EP Information Literacy modules consist of  levelled resources aimed at Y7-Y10.

The modules cover core skills for students to better manage their interactions with online information, become aware of the risks of social media, express themselves confidently and safely, employ critical thinking, analysis and evaluation of online media and find reliable trustworthy research resources.

The lessons cover core aspects of new media literacy such as:

  • Evaluating Online Content
  • Fake News
  • Logical Fallacies
  • Global Digital Citizenship
  • Critical Thinking Skills
  • Conspiracies
  • Asking Effective Questions

Throughout the modules students are challenged with evaluating sources and determining reliability of texts, choosing safe and effective modes of expression on social media and understanding the history and evolution of conspiratorial thinking.

In addition to vital critical thinking skills necessary to navigate modern media students will also learn how to construct logical arguments through the logical fallacies module.

The Global Digital Citizenship module helps students think more broadly about the impact their online activity has and how to be a positive member of the global online community.
