EPeeps Kirsty Paulin | Project Manager/Senior Editor

Kia ora, I’m Kirsty, and I am a Project Manager/Senior Editor here at Education Perfect, based in our HQ in Dunedin, New Zealand. I was born and raised just down the road in Central Otago, moving away from the sunshine (and sometimes snow) for university in 2015. I completed my BA here in Otago, which led me to apply for a content writing job at EP in 2019–the beginning of an exciting and fulfilling journey!

Since then, I have held three different positions, each a unique experience that presented new opportunities for growth. Now, I manage and work alongside a team of editors, as we work to create the resources and content we host on our platform.

Tell us a bit about yourself!

When I’m not at work, I like to keep pretty active! Mostly through playing netball, which takes up a lot of my time over winter and has for as long as I can remember! Other than that my hobbies are pretty unexciting, catching up with friends, exploring our backyard, all the good stuff!

What do you enjoy most about your role?

One of our core values at EP is continuous improvement, and that’s something I see every day in my role that I find really exciting. It might be that we find a new, more effective way to present questions, or we find a more efficient way to release new content, we are always moving forward and playing a role in that growth is really rewarding!

I also love getting to edit a wide range of lessons. From junior Maths to senior English, I am always learning something new, and am constantly blown away by the work our team does.

Why do you love working at EP?

There’s lots to love about EP! In the (almost) 3 years I have been here I have been able to seek out and be presented with so many opportunities for professional development. Coming into the company as a recent graduate the opportunity to learn and grow has been invaluable to me.

The team is also great, and I get to work with some very talented people!

How do you prefer to start your day?

I always make a coffee before I sit down at my desk. Then I check my messages and update or prioritise my to-do list for the day.

Tell us about your pet(s)

I have a beautiful (and demanding) cat named Susan! She is half Birman and half Ragdoll. She definitely makes us work for her attention but she is a delight all the same.

Her special skills include: bringing various critters inside (mice, lizards) but never killing them.

Something you are proud of?

I recently led the delivery of our introductory suite for the brand new Aotearoa NZ Histories curriculum. This content challenges the traditional narratives that have been taught and acknowledges that Māori history is the foundational history of Aotearoa. It is such an important suite of lessons, and I am so glad that I got to be a part of it!

What advice would you pass on to a younger version of yourself?

  • Be confident!
  • Come with solutions not problems.
  • Don’t sweat the small stuff.
  • Back yourself!
