EPeeps Alex Rosie | Senior Editor

Hello, hello everyone! I’m one of the many Alex’s at EP and my role is Senior Editor within the Content Team. I am currently located in Dunedin, where I have been for the last 3 years since I started at EP.Before this, I was located in Christchurch where I studied Biology and Statistics and worked as a swim coach and statistics tutor. Beyond EP (and sometimes with!) I am keen on social sports and competitive hockey player and also an avid group organiser for weekends away with my mates.

What’s a typical day like for you in your role?

BUSY! My fantastic team works with contractors to create some world-class content. I plan and manage the delivery of multiple projects running within the maths (and sometimes science) space. This means I work in recruitment, manage a few spreadsheets, look at lots of lessons and answer plenty of questions about the projects. I also get to dive in and help out with feedback on the previous content we have made from time to time.

Goals for the next 3 months?

Currently, we are working on lots of different projects. A big project is the Ontario Grades 6-10 Mathematics and Science project, where we are creating over 400 lessons for the Canadian curriculum. This is a major project and plays an important role in providing more support for our Canadian schools. The team has been working on this project for several months and we will be wrapping it up over the next 3 months. A large goal of mine is to successfully deliver all resources within the project. As this is one of the first projects I have led since stepping into the Senior Editor role, another goal of mine is to successfully bring the learnings we have had throughout the project into the next projects we plan & deliver.

On a personal note, I have made the decision to move to Wellington! It’s a strong aim of mine to find my new place, and connect with the Wellington EPeeps within the next 3 months.

Why become an EPeep?

I have loved being a part of EP, it has been a fantastic place to meet like-minded individuals who are passionate about education, take massive growth steps within my career and develop skills I never thought I would come across. So why not become an EPeep? This could be you too!

Favourite feature of the platform?

The Working Formula (WF) question component in my opinion, could do with all the love. It is such a neat question component and has some of the most powerful capabilities! I honestly can’t get over the fact that students can get prompted on whether they are on the right track while completing a question, or the fact students can use different methods and the WF can pick up what is compatible with the correct answer we have input for. It’s such a neat feature within our maths and science lessons!

Where is somewhere you’d like to visit?

Honestly, anywhere at the moment! I have a nice spreadsheet for a Europe trip I’d love to go on. See a friend in Germany, sail the warm seas in Croatia and eat some pasta in Italy!

What advice would you pass on to a younger version of yourself?

I now live by, what’s the worst that could happen? So to my younger self I would say, take all the opportunities you can, keep thriving, keep learning & keep being you.
